The mission of Citizens for Financial Responsibility (CFR) is:

1. To provide an open forum for the discussion, deliberation and collaboration of community issues.

2. To promote good planning, land use, representative government, and fair taxation

3. To act as an advocate for the community on issues which affect the citizens of Norman.

4. To monitor the delivery of City services.

Activities in which we have engaged:

1. We believe public funds should not be used for private purposes and, therefore, actively opposed the UNP TIF at its inception. We thought it was a bad idea then and we intend to revisit the issue in the near future.

2. We opposed the first Public Safety Sales Tax initiative because it had no plan and the revenue could be used for any lawful purpose. We urged Council to present a comprehensive plan the public would accept. The revised plan was passed by voters and is now a part of the City’s structure.

3. We opposed the recent water rate increase because we believed the City had not made the case that a need existed and allowed disingenuous statements to be made. We supported the sanitation rate increase since the City’s need and plan were clearly delineated

Future considerations:

1. Tracing 8 million dollars of taxpayer money stipulated for Waste Water Treatment Plant and determining legal ramifications.

2. Whether or not to continue the City’s involvement in the UNP TIF.

3. Pursuing the increase of the sanitation rate to meet the City’s needs.

4. Investigating possible east and west branch libraries.

We are non partisan and funded solely by contributions from the citizens.
